On March 20, all seniors were called down during advisory to find out who won Mr. and Miss AHS as well as see the multiple senior personalities. Candidates family members and all AHS seniors pilled into the auditorium, anticipation and excitement filling the room.
Senior personalities have been an annual tradition all seniors look forward to, the 2019 graduating class being no exception. Seniors filled out ballots before spring break and the winners were calculated and announced.
The candidates were called up onto stage and Mrs. Rinehart, the MC for the session, read out the letters a given teacher had wrote about them, some bringing guests close to tears, as well as announcing their future plans and college destinations.
All information came from the official Mr. and Miss AHS program script.

Mrs. Rinehart was the MC for the ceremony, who led with the process with quick commentary and heart-warming emotion while reading candidates respected letters written from their teachers and announcing their future plans for college and careers.
Sammy Jepsen- The first nominee who has been at Aledo since sophomore year. His hobbies include exotic game hunting, fly fishing, long distance running, and Civil War re-enactment. His future goals are to study and develop careers within medicine and law enforcement.
Jepsen’s given teacher, Mr. Long, the AP History teacher, said, “Sammy Jepsen, or as I know him, Sammy J is one of the kindest students I know… Since he is a history fan, I was thrilled to have him in my class, but it was his kindness that made him stand out. I can always count on Sammy J to share something cool that is happening with him, but he also has a genuine interest in whats new with me. Sammy represents the sense of community that makes Aledo great with an authentic interest in people…”
Grace Flatten, the second nominee, has attended Aledo since 8th grade. She is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Varsity Cheer, iSchool Student Advocate, and the Prom Committee. She plans to attend Texas A&M and major in aerospace engineering. After college, she hopes to land her dream job as a NASA rocket scientist.
Her teacher of choice was Mrs. McLellan who said, “Grace is an outstanding choice as a student to represent Aledo High School… The wide variety of activities in which Grace participates shows that she can not only be an expectational academic student, who-yes Coach McCone- will become a rocket scientist, but Grace can also support or drive any activity… Her fun-loving personality, care for all of those that she encounters, and drive for excellence makes Grace Flatten a perfect Miss AHS representative."
Beth Ann gives a quick embrace to Zachary Reinert, her boyfriend of four years.
Zachary Reinert, the third nominee, has been at Aledo since his 2nd grade. He’s a member of the Varsity football team, Varsity baseball team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, National Honor Society, and the Holy Redeemer Church. He plans to graduate from Texas A&M with an Aerospace Engineering degree and raise a family in the great state of Texas.
His teacher of choice was Mr. Caruso who said, “Your experience with Mr. Reinert will hinge on how much time you’re fortunate enough to spend with him… After two years of the gauntlet that is our campus’ most challenging physics coursework, you’ll feel better about your species’ future knowing leaders like Mr. Reinert number among our ranks. I know it seems generic to award the honor of Mr. AHS to a defensive captain, linebacker, and catcher with an understanding academic transcript, a winning steak- eating record, and a crush on Carrie Underwood. But there’s nothing generic abut excellence, and there’s nothing generic about the two years Ive been privileged to spend with Mr. Reinert. He pushes me to be a better teacher and mentor.”
Beth Ann Simmons, the next nominee, has attended Aledo schools since Kindergarten. She is a member of Aledo Cheer, Leading Ladies, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Christ Chapel, and she is the President of Student Council and the Environment Club. She plans on majoring in Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin. After college, she plans to go to grad school to become either a nurse practitioner or a nurse anesthetist.
She loves running long distances, playing with the cutest dogs in the world, disk golfing, teaching a sweet group of third graders each Sunday, and going skydiving.
Her teacher of choice was Mr. Britton who said, “It gives me immense pleasure to recommend Beth Ann to represent Aledo. As my student, she always worked hard in her studies and wanted to learn… An A was important, but it was not her only goal. She wanted to deserve the A, and it needed to mean something… She is not on ego compromise her goals, even when other avenues would be much easier. She worked hard, and she wants that to speak for itself as she aims to join the ranks of her top choice school. She has a great sense of commitment. She has missed family vacations because, as a cheerleader, it was her responsibility to be at cheer camps… Beth Ann has maintained a busy school schedule with many extracurricular and social responsibilities, As is evident, I think very highly of this young woman and recommend Beth Ann without reservations for any endeavors she chooses to pursue.”
The oncoming nominee is Cooper Thompson who has attended Aledo since Kindergarten. He is a member of the varsity football team, Westworth Church of Christ and Young Life. His favorite subjects are AP Government, AP Biology, AP Stats and English. He plans to attend Texas Tech and major in Biology, go into Pre Med and become a Dermatologist.
As Cooper enters the stage he hands off his bouquet to Sarah Morehead.
Cooper’s teacher was Mrs. Reed, the newest English teacher, who said, “Cooper Thompson is famous for many things… You might know him for his infectious laugh. You might know him as a hard-working teammate on the state champion Bearcat football team or as the coffee-loving guy who tells great stories… No matter who Cooper is to you today, whether a beloved friend, an outstanding student, or a jolly classmate who tells good jokes, he will go down in history as a man of the people and an excellent candidate to represent the class of 2019 as Mr. AHS.”
The final nominee was Sarah Morhead, who has been at Aledo since Kindergarten. She’s a member of Aledo volleyball, National Honor Society, Environment Club, Top 10%, and she’s the Book Club President. She plans on playing volleyball at Harding University and majoring in Biology. She would like to attend medical school or PT school after college.
Her teacher of choice was Mr. Grgurich who said, ” Miss AHS should be awarded to a young lady that is a great representative of her class, both in the classroom and in the community… Sarah is one of the greatest students I have had the pleasure of teaching. Sarah has faced a lot of adversity and obstacles, and she has handled these situations better than most teenagers, with grace, strength, faith, and last but not least, a smile on her face. She has endured, adapted, and overcome these obstacles while remaining a great student and person. She is a fierce competitor and leader, both in the classroom and on the volleyball court… She is well respected by the staff and students in the district; she is a great friend, and I look forward to following her success and journey through life. I could not think of a better representative for the title, Miss AHS.”
